“’Daisy Dukes’ Staff Claims Off-Duty NOPD Officers Harass Prostitutes”

The restaurant chain “Daisy Dukes” caters to tourists and shift workers, offering a gambit of reasonably priced, late night dishes in the CBD and French Quarter. The popular chain is open and serving hash 24 hours a day, seven-days a week.

Two worlds seemingly collide at “Daisy Dukes” when off-duty NOPD officers from the 8th District and prostitutes end up eating breakfast together under the same roof. According to “Daisy Dukes” staff members at one location, whom “The NOLA Tabloid” will not identify, a group of police officers target these hookers for harassment.

In one incident, a known working girl to restaurant staff was standing at the front counter to pay for a to-go order when a male, off-duty NOPD officer in uniform stood uncomfortably close to her to chat with a waitress. At some point, an argument ensued when the officer claimed that the woman purposely bumped into him. The woman countered by saying that the officer bumped into her. The officer then told the woman to leave her food on the counter and step outside. Two other uniformed NOPD officers left the table they were seated at to assist him. The woman was placed into handcuffs and questioned in front of the busy restaurant’s entrance. Eventually, the officers released the woman without arrest and allowed her to retrieve her food and leave.

In a separate incident at the same location, another known prostitute, who regularly frequents the restaurant, came inside to use the restroom. The same group of off-duty NOPD officers told her to leave because she was trespassing. The woman responded by saying that she was a regular customer and friendly with staff members. When one of the waiters told the officers that the woman is a good customer and was free to use the restroom, the officers supposedly got ticked off with staff and abruptly left. Before leaving the restaurant, one officer allegedly told the waiter, “Thanks a lot for making us look like assholes."

According to the waiter, this group of NOPD officers has not returned to the restaurant since, despite the fact that “Daisy Dukes” offers uniformed police officers free food during late night hours.
