“WWL-TV News Anchor Claims She Was Stalked by Gretna Man”

An anchor at WWL-TV News, who “The NOLA Tabloid” will not identify, claims that she was stalked by 34-year-old Tai Brandon Kelly of Gretna, Louisiana.

The woman first sought to obtain a Temporary Restraining Order from Kelly at Orleans Civil District Court on February 19, 2019. She filed a handwritten complaint with the Clerk of Court alleging that Kelly showed up at WWL-TV’s studio in the French Quarter looking for her, went to her parents’ home and left a heart-drawn note for her, and sent her several e-mails to her “gmail” account between January & April of 2018.

In the note, Kelly allegedly wrote, “Happy Birthday, keep it to yourself. I got u, let me know if I’m at the right house.” In the e-mails, Kelly allegedly wrote, “Whateva u need! I got your book! P.S. I really thought you were in danger.”

The woman indicated in her complaint that she did not know Kelly, he was a stranger to her, and she had never been in a relationship with him.

On March 21, 2019, sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve Kelly at his home on Bannerwood Drive in Gretna with a court order to have no further contact with the woman, but he was not there and on the loose. The NOPD asked the local media to assist by broadcasting Kelly's name & photo to the public. However, police did not mention that Kelly's accuser was a popular WWL newscaster.

Kelly was ultimately arrested on a criminal stalking warrant and appeared in Orleans Magistrate Court on April 4, 2019. The District Attorney’s Office formally charged Kelly with one count of misdemeanor stalking R.S. 14:40.2 and he remains free on a $10,000 surety bond through A-Associate Bail Bonds, LLC.

Kelly is represented by attorney Cody Loggins with The Bagert Law Firm in New Orleans and the case has been allotted to Section L, Judge Franz Zibilich. Kelly is due back in court Thursday, July 25, 2019, for a pre-trial conference.
