“Jailed Bourbon Street Slugger Ray Julian is Being Trolled on Facebook”

On June 13, 2019, “The NOLA Tabloid” was the first media agency to report on an outrageous Facebook video filmed on Bourbon Street of a shirtless man randomly sucker punching men and women in New Orleans. The story was later picked up by WWL-TV Channel 4 News and the rampaging man was identified as 25-year-old, Ray Julian.

Julian was arrested that night by State Police after being tased and charged with seven misdemeanor counts of simple battery and one count of resisting arrest. Julian remains incarcerated at the Orleans Justice Center and has since been charged with felony counts of second degree battery and aggravated assault with a firearm stemming from a prior incident of domestic violence. There is also a Baton Rouge warrant hold on Julian and a notice for medical staff at the jail to collect a DNA sample from him.

Since Julian’s blow-up on Bourbon Street, angry commenters have been trolling a Facebook profile belonging to “Ray Anthony Julien” (Sliim Rasoul Delove), believed to be the suspect. However, there is a discrepancy in that Julian’s name is spelled with an “a” in court records and the Facebook user spells his name with an “e.” A female commenter, who claims she personally knows Julian, has indicated that in fact the profile belongs to the suspect from the viral video.

Julian’s Facebook intro reads “I’d rather be hated for what I am than be loved for what I’m not.” That quote sums up the feelings of commenters on Facebook now trolling Julian’s profile. Most of the comments are obscene and will not be republished by “The NOLA Tabloid.” Needless to say, the comments express the disgust by many residents of metro New Orleans directed towards Julian over his spree of unprovoked attacks in the French Quarter. Some believe that Julian's anger was motivated by hate and he targeted whites and women.

According to the Facebook profile, Julian attended the University of Houston, is single, has a young daughter, and is a struggling rapper. Julian has posted links to the websites soundcloud.com and YouTube for rap songs he recorded titled “Trap Conscience,” “Adultry,” and “Sword” through the record label Beacoup Good Music. In the music video, Julian is depicted in 2018 rapping along a railroad track and wearing a denim jacket emblazoned with the brand name “Savage.”

Julian also promotes a Facebook page & YouTube channel “Da Spill Show” featuring New Orleanians Janvier Wilson & Jazzy Montana. It is unknown if Julian is personally acquainted with either Wilson or Montana.

Julian is due back in Magistrate Court on July 19, 2019, for a status hearing.
