“Detroit Tourist Visiting NOLA Hospitalized After Snorting ‘China White’”

A group of men visiting New Orleans from Michigan has a horrific experience on Bourbon Street after driving 1,800 miles to party.

Last night, Friday, May 24, 2019, a middle-aged man was standing outside of Tulane Hospital’s emergency room telling a tale of a Memorial Day road-trip that went terribly wrong. After he and a few friends arrived in the French Quarter from Detroit, things quickly went downhill. Their car was apparently stolen from a parking garage near Bourbon Street.

After reporting the stolen car to police, they were determined not to let this setback ruin their four-day weekend in New Orleans. The group went to party on Bourbon Street and got way more than they expected.

After spending an extended period of time at an unnamed nightclub, the group supposedly racked up a $600 tab. While leaving the club, the men were allegedly given a small bundle of “China White” by a bouncer wearing a security staff shirt. The bundle was a gift and the bouncer did not charge the men for the drug. Once the bundle was opened, the powdery substance appeared brownish in color. The intoxicated tourists believed that it was cocaine and one man snorted it.

Approximately 10 minutes later, the man suddenly passed out, face planted to the ground, and began foaming at the mouth. He was then rushed to Tulane Hospital where his condition remains uncertain.

China White is not a slang term for cocaine. It is a newer designer drug that is a synthetic version of heroin, yet much more potent. China White, or alpha-Methylfentanyl, is an opioid analog of the drug fentanyl and can be fatal in even small doses.

Since 2017, China White has been responsible for dozens of overdose deaths along the East Coast from Rhode Island to New York to Pennsylvania. The drug is classified as a Schedule I and has a street value ranging from $7 to $10 a dose.
