“First Fake News, Now Fake Families?”
We have all heard about the phenomenon known as fake news. Many of us have even had fake friends before. But what about fake families?
The U.S. Border Patrol has been reportedly experiencing so-called “fake families” of migrants crossing into the country illegally. The family comes complete with a mother, father, kids, and even foreign birth certificates. But it’s all a scam.
For the most part, nuclear families are treated more favorably than single individuals by immigration authorities and courts in the U.S. Hundreds of fake families have been uncovered by federal agents crossing into Arizona and Texas at the southern border.
Some believe that this trend is simply a new maneuver in exploiting U.S. immigration law by desperate Central American migrants fleeing poverty and violence.
However, others believe that these fake families are a ploy used by human traffickers to abuse vulnerable children and smuggle them into the U.S.
It begs the question, how many existing family units in the U.S. are in fact fake? Could your family really be a fake family? Have you ever suspected that your family was fake?
