“U.S. Border Patrol Task Force Has Been Quietly Operating in NOLA”
New Orleans is more than 600 miles from the Mexican border, and a world away from the contentious debate brewing in Washington D.C. over border security funding. So, why is a small task force of Border Patrol agents operating in NOLA?
According to an unnamed source, who “The NOLA Tabloid” will not identify, a group of roughly six agents has been discretely working out of the U.S. Customs House in New Orleans. A marked Border Patrol SUV can be seen leaving the building on Canal Street, driven by armed agents dressed in distinctive green uniforms and patches.
Exactly how long the task force has been in NOLA and what its mission is remain uncertain. However, the unnamed source claims that Border Patrol agents have detained and attempted to deport at least one homeless man living in New Orleans, who allegedly entered the country illegally from Africa.
New Orleans has traditionally been considered a so-called “sanctuary city” by many Republican elected officials in Louisiana. They point to the City’s longstanding policy of preventing New Orleans police from cooperating with federal immigration authorities, a practice commonly shared by Democratic controlled cities like San Francisco, Seattle & Boston.
