“NOLA Courts Ditch ‘The TP’ for ‘Advocate’ Newspaper”

For decades, “The Times Picayune” was the default newspaper to publish court notices in its classified section. Not anymore.

For the past few months, Orleans Civil District Court has switched to “The New Orleans Advocate” as its official source to publish notices, abandoning “The TP.”

This is just the latest in a series of declines suffered by “The TP” in the New Orleans market. “The TP’s” downhill spiral started when the newspaper announced it would no longer print a daily edition, instead switching its content to a more digital focus online @ Nola.com. That transition was followed by many seasoned TP editors and reporters being lured away by businessman John Georges over to “The New Orleans Advocate.”

Since that time, “The TP” announced the closure of its sprawling printing hub on Howard Ave. in New Orleans, instead outsourcing its printing to Alabama. Georges then capitalized by offering a daily edition of “The New Orleans Advocate,” partnering with WWL-TV Channel 4 News, and opening its headquarters locally on Saint Charles Ave.

Many of the court notices published include foreclosures, property seizures, successions, wills, and real estate transfers.
