“NPR Program: Everyone Has a Secret Rape Fantasy”

Could this explain the whole Kavanaugh controversy in a nutshell? Could it be true that both Kavanaugh and the women really have a secret “rape fantasy” that may account for these allegations and denials?

According to a rerun of a previously aired segment of NPR’s “Radiolab” program from May 9, 2008, titled ‘Deception,’ everyone harbors a fantasy of rape, either raping someone else or being raped themselves. However, the initial date that the program aired in 2008 was way before the “Me Too” movement and the ensuing firestorm of women accusing powerful men of sexual harassment in the workplace. Since that time, Hollywood’s Harvey Weinstein has been criminally charged with sex crimes in New York and Bill Cosby has been convicted of sexual assault charges in Pennsylvania and sentenced to a stretch in prison that could be the rest of the 81-year-old’s life.

NPR recently replayed the ‘Deception’ segment in September of 2018 locally in New Orleans on WWNO 89.9 fm. The program’s hosts, Robert Krulwich & Jab Abumrab, interviewed two experts, a professor of psychiatry at Columbia University Dr. Harold Sackeim & a neuropsychologist Dr. Ruben Gore, on the concept of lying or deception in humans.

Drs. Sackeim & Gore had conducted past experiments on the topic in the 1970’s and created a list of uncomfortable control questions of so-called “universal truths” to ask the test subjects. One of the questions was, “Have you ever wanted to rape or be raped by somebody?” According to these doctors, everyone, both men & women, share this same fantasy but many or most are unwilling to admit it to another person.

The other control questions were, “Have you ever doubted your sexual adequacy?” “Have you ever enjoyed your bowel movements?” “Have you ever thought of committing suicide in order to get back at somebody?” If you answered “no” to any of these questions, you are lying to yourself, the doctors contend.
