"Jamaican Courts Receive 'Bomb Threat' Hoaxes"

New Orleans has been called the northernmost point of the Caribbean. Perhaps it's because NOLA shares a similar heritage & lifestyle with Caribbean nations. One thing that New Orleans certainly shares with Jamaica is crime.

Over the past several days, Jamaican courts, including Jamaica's Supreme Court in Kingston, have received hoax bomb threats, resulting in closures and dockets being cancelled.

The Supreme Court of Jamaica was threatened on September 17th, followed by a threat against Saint Catherine Parish Court on September 18th 2018.

Each episode began with a called-in bomb scare to the court, resulting in the building being evacuated and police arriving with bomb disposal units to conduct a search. The searches have resulted with no explosives being found.

Police have indicated to Jamaican media that they believe a street gang is to blame and is phoning-in bogus bomb threats in order to postpone the criminal case of a high-ranking gang member on trial.

This story was developed with social media posts by news outlets Jamaica News Network (JNN) & CVM Television.
