"Cyber Security Conference Happening in NOLA"

Today, is the last day of a week long cyber security conference that began on September 6, 2018, at the Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown New Orleans.

The gathering of so-called computer geeks and techies has taken on a new sexiness since the issue of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election has come to the forefront.

The conference attracted a wide swath of cyber professionals from such corporate giants as Pepsi Co., Shell Oil & Booze Allen Hamilton, the NSA contractor that whistle-blower Edward Snowden once worked for. The topic of Snowden is still a sore spot for many tech professionals, who believe that he embarrassed their industry.

The co-Chairs, Rob Lee & Phil Hagen, have organized the topics covered during the conference to focus on such issues as "threat hunting," which means proactively detecting, isolating & defeating advanced threats that evade automated security solutions.

In the lead-up to the 2018 midterm elections, National Security Advisor John Bolton said last month that countries such as China, Iran, North Korea & Russia could try to interfere. However, for the majority of the publicly traded companies represented at the New Orleans conference, they face constant attacks, by both state & non-state actors, motivated by financial gain, not politics.
