“Part 2: Tulane Receives Big City Contracts, While Dodging Huge Property Taxes”

Some say in sports, “It’s not if you win or lose, but how you play the game.” Based on Tulane’s ability to garner large contracts from the City, while avoiding the payment on hundreds of millions of dollars in annual property taxes to the City, Tulane is definitely playing well and winning this game.

This article is the latest in an exclusive series by “The NOLA Tabloid” in examining contracts awarded by the City of New Orleans to Tulane. Tulane’s status as a non-profit organization allows it an exemption from paying property taxes to the City on dozens of multi-million dollar properties in Orleans Parish.

On February 14, 2018, the City granted Tulane a $740K contract to, among other things, provide data on rodent, bird, and mosquito infestations and related diseases, such as West Nile & Zeka viruses, over a five-year period, with annual disbursements ranging from $143K to $152K.

On April 25, 2018, the City granted Tulane a $30K extension to provide medical services and pharmacy assistance to patients living with HIV/AIDS. This extension placed the total contract, which began in 2016, to a sum of $346K+.
